Holy Trinity Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, October 2018
Holy Trinity parishioners Art and Connie Asentista came up with a novel idea to raise funds for the church renovation. Using their talents as professional tour guides, they designed a pilgrimage to the Holy Land at a reasonable & competitive cost with proceeds being donated to the Holy Trinity renovation. Most of the 38 pilgrims were from Holy Trinity with some from surrounding parishes and one couple from Canada. Fr. Anthony “Gigi” Bernas was enlisted as the enthusiastic Spiritual Leader.
Fr. Gigi – looking like he is ready for some “time off” in his shorts – anxiously awaits the arrival of a charter bus to take the pilgrims and all their luggage to SEATAC airport on the evening of Monday, October 15. The photos show the anxious pilgrims as they anticipate the long flight from Seattle to JFK in New York and on to Tel Aviv, Israel.
Fr. Jack provided a special blessing for their spiritual journey and let the pilgrims smell his Jordan River water while sharing some of his Holy Land adventure stories. Veronica and Fr. Jack anxiously waited with the pilgrims for the bus to arrive. A huge bus finally arrived which was good because a smaller bus would not have been able to transport all the luggage.
Connie sent a picture from the plane as it was arriving in Tel Aviv. The pilgrims look tired after their long flight overnight. With the time difference (10 hours!), they “lost” Tuesday and arrived in the Holy Land on Wednesday ready for their journey to begin. A guide met them at the airport and led them to their bus for their first stop at Joppa (aka Jaffa near Haifa) for their first Mass in the Holy Land at St. Peter’s Church. (Reference Acts of the Apostles, chapters 9 & 10). After thanking God for their safe arrival, they were off again for Nazareth, dinner and, finally, a nice comfortable bed and to prepare for the next day’s journey into Galilee.
More pictures will be posted as available. Please keep our pilgrims in your prayers and pray for a safe trip home. They will arrive back at Holy Trinity on the afternoon of Friday, October 25th.
